Raku firing is perhaps the most dramatic and exciting pottery method around! This Japanese technique involves taking pots out of the kiln while still in a hot, orange, molten glow. This particular piece was created by letting the clay cool to a certain temperature, and then applying horse fair, feathers, and sugar to the surface of the vase. The organic materials burn off, leaving a carbon trace. The materials, timing, and smoke created by the wind that day create a unique, one-of-a-kind piece of pottery that can never be replicated.
For decorative use only. Raku vessels are not watertight and will absorb (and leak) water. To use the vase for fresh flowers, insert a florist's tube with water inside. May also be used to contain dry materials.
Do not wash or wipe with a wet cloth.
